thirty four

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Burum Collective mid year update 2023!

We’ll start with the sad news. Due to scheduling conflicts, Alex Morris has had to step down from the position of jobs board administrator, which means that the jobs board has temporarily been disabled until we (Helen and Rachel) are able to sit down and discuss what happens next. Life post-pandemic has been incredibly busy, and so we very much appreciate the work that Alex has been doing with us for the past year and a half.

Hopefully we can get some more news to you later in the year, but in the meantime we will be focussing all of the time we have spare on the zine project to ensure that it has the care and attention it needs to be as effective as possible.

We already miss working with Alex but she’ll always be a member of the Burum Collective team. Thank you so much for all of your work, and we’ll definitely see you in Birmingham later this year.

Upcoming Collaborations

As some of you will have already seen: the first of our three part Little Pomona x Burum Collective collaboration has kind of been launched? Almost? It will be officially launched over the next few weeks and we’ll send out more information about the project very soon.

In the beer world, Helen is currently organising a charity brew for TransAid Cymru with Wilderness Brewing and other brilliant Welsh drinks producers. So far we have Bluestone, BeerRiff and Crafty Devil involved in the project and we are very excited to raise some money and awareness for this amazing organisation.

One thing that we are missing from the project is an alcohol free drinks producer, so if there are any breweries or soft drinks companies who would like to get involved by doing an alcohol free collaboration with us at Burum, that will form part of the wider charity brew, then get in touch with Helen at helen@burumcollective.com

Service, Please!

Thank you so much to everyone who pitched to Service, Please! We had so many wonderful submissions and interesting ideas, sadly we are only able to accept so many but we have now commissioned five different pieces of writing, as well as three illustrations.

We’re thrilled to be working with a mixture of groups on this project, such as Unite the Union, Arcade Campfa and TransAid Cymru. There’s a lot of work ahead of us in terms of production but once that’s done we’ll be arranging launch events all around the UK.

Service, Please! will be available for pre-orders by the end of this month. Anyone interested in trade/wholesale information can get in touch with Helen at helen@burumcollective.com

We’ll need as much help as we can with regards to getting this zine into the hands of hospitality workers, so if you work for a food or drinks wholesaler/distributer who might be able to send our zine out with deliveries to hospitality venues then get in touch!

Events in 2023

As announced on Twitter at the end of 2022, we won’t be doing any beer festivals this year but we will be hosting the Cider Salon afterparty at the Wiper & True taproom on the 5th of August. More information about that, (and a sneaky Compound Drinking tasting) soon!

Huge love to you all, stay excellent,

Helen & Rachel x
