fourty three

Firstly I would like to say a huge HUGE thank you to everyone who made Service, Please! possible last year. Especially to our Patreon subscribers: Wiper and True, Deya, Verdant, and Phantom who provided us with the funding so we could commission writers and illustrators to share their experiences of hospitality work.

Thank you also to Unite the Union, Bacareto, Ross Cider, BeerRiff, Hard Lines, Simple Things Fermentation, Verdant, Wiper & True, Deya, and Hop Hideout who all purchased copies for distribution. And last but not least to everyone who has bought a copy via our website, this enabled us to print even more copies to distribute for free to hospitality staff across the UK.

In total we were able to get 600 copies of Service, Please! out into the world and for that we are so proud. The information in these pages for hospitality staff is so important and has the potential to encourage change and unionisation towards better working environments.

What are we doing this year?

  • We’re kicking off 2024 with the theme of cider, looking at our work with Little Pomona, which we started all the way back in 2021! This will comprise of some written, and visual work, the release of two very excellent ciders, and a recording of our presentation from our CraftCon talk on Tradition in 2023. We’ll be hosting an event at Bacareto with Little Pomona on the 2nd of April!

  • We will be sharing our Service Please! pieces over the next year for any service staff who missed out on a free copy, and you can now find all Frequently Asked Union Questions here

  • We are organising a Welsh craft beer fundraiser for TransAid Cymru for the 9th of May at the BeerRiff taproom, which we are super excited about! Beer and event information will be out later in March.

  • And last but not least, we are going to be opening up pitches for an online feature on Your Local. More information on what we are looking for and how to pitch will be coming out from our co-editor Rachel Hendry in the Springtime.

As always, we thank you all for your ongoing support over the last four years! Our space within the drinks industry might be growing smaller, but we are still dedicated to doing what we can.
